Meet Our Amazing New Executive Director

  • Let Girls Learn Initiative (LGLI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Racheal Ouko as its new Executive Director.  Rachel will be in charge of organizational development, fundraising and institutional strengthening. She will also ensure that adolescent girls and young women’s lived realities are amplified at the national and international levels.
  • Rachel has more than 10 years professional experience with various International Non-Governmental Organizations in governance and human rights.  She has worked at the African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET) as Bilingual Membership liaison officer, engaging with over 800 individual and organizational women’s rights organizations from 50 African countries and the diaspora.  She has experience in movement building and solidarity for advocacy with women’s rights organizations in the region and globally, having organized campaigns such as Beijing +25 Africa consultative meetings and follow the Maputo Protocol campaign, ensuring Gender Equality and Women Empowerment with feminist approach, principles, and values.

  • Her work also entailed creating strategic linkages, solidarity and alliances with a wide membership landscape and putting focus on leaving no-one behind especially the hard to reach and marginalized constituencies for Pan African Feminist Movement building. She was in the team that founded in 2013, the Kenya Network of Women Governors (KENWOG) as a Coordinator; has worked as a Bilingual event planned for the Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU); Bilingual HR consultant African Development Bank and Equality Now as a Bilingual Program Associate. Rachelle is a bilingual, script writer and an expert in drama and theatre with experience as a national adjudicator at the Kenya National Drama and Film Festivals and using Theatre and Arts skills as a tool for advocacy for Education for girls and women of Africa. She has a Bachelor of Education Arts French/ Swahili Degree from Maseno University and a Post Graduate Diploma -Professionalization en FLE from Centre National d’ Enseignement a Distance (CNED). Ms Ouko is currently finalizing her Master of Arts in Diplomacy, Development, and International Security at Daystar University, with a major in gender and development focusing on leadership and has a   DALF C1 Diplôme in French from CNED France.  She believes Theatre for Development (TFD) is key to achieve SDGs, Vision 2030 and other national and regional instruments that promote human rights, equality, and equity at all levels.
  • Racheal is an Alumni of MASHAV- Women in Political Empowerment.  From June 2020 to February 2022 , she was Women in Political Participation (WPP) Program Officer at FAWE, where she implemented the project in Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Senegal, Botswana, Eswatini, DRC and Cote d’Ivoire.
  • Having worked at FEMNET, The African Development bank, FAWE, PALU, Equality Now and other Pan African organizations she brings a lot of wealth Let Girls Learn Initiative.
