About Let Girls Learn Initiative
We organise with girls, communities, and feminist movements to protect girls’ rights, expand opportunities, and build a future where every girl thrives.
Who We Are
Let Girls Learn Initiative (LGLI) is a feminist non-governmental organisation registered in Kenya. We work with communities and volunteers to address the challenges facing adolescent girls and young women — including access to quality education, sexual and reproductive health rights, and ending child marriage and female genital mutilation.
We believe that when girls learn, they unlock their full potential.
For over six years, LGLI has worked in Kisumu, Marigat, Homa Bay, and Kibera (Nairobi) advocating for the inclusion of teenage mothers in education and expanding access to SRHR information.
Our work includes:
Feminist mentorship programs in Rabuor and Kibera schools
Establishing girl-led clubs for leadership and feminist consciousness
Collaborating with feminist movements, including Feminists in Kenya
Joining global campaigns such as Plan International’s advocacy against online violence
Sharing our insights internationally, including at the ICT4D Conference
We also run vocational training for girls and support women with community-driven solutions—delivered by our volunteers who serve as grassroots agents of change.
Our Belief
Girls deserve lifelong opportunities to build confidence, life skills, and knowledge. These are essential in breaking cycles of poverty, HIV, teenage pregnancy, and early marriage — enabling them to lead healthier, empowered lives.
What We do
Core Pillars of Let Girls Learn Initiative
LGLI partners with communities, parents, caregivers, health service providers, and government institutions to build a supportive ecosystem for girls and young women. Our work is guided by these core pillars:
This pillar focuses on ensuring girls can safely attend school, remain in school, and complete their learning journey. We address context-specific barriers such as menstrual hygiene, SRHR information gaps, cultural norms, and violence. Educated girls uplift families, communities, and economies.
This is the heart of our advocacy. Girls and young women have boundless power, vision, and talent — and they deserve to be heard. Through our Raising a Feminist Generation (RFG) Clubs, we nurture feminist leadership, political awareness, and collective organizing.
Our programs are young women–led. Their voices guide our interventions. We prioritize: • Self-confidence • Mentorship • Safe spaces • Participation in community decision-making When girls lead, communities transform — socially, economically, and environmentally.
We support climate education, community-led adaptation, and local solutions that ensure girls remain safe, informed, and empowered in the face of environmental change. A climate-resilient community is one where girls can thrive.
